Manfred Zollner began his career as a film critic and film editor for various magazines after completing his studies in communication science.
Since 1991, he has focused exclusively on photography, building a distinguished career in photo editing and visual journalism.
For many years he was closely associated with fotoMAGAZIN, one of Germany’s leading photography publications, where he held key editorial roles, including Director of Photography and later Deputy Editor-in-Chief. He also served as Editor-in-Chief of Photo Technik International (now Photo International) and was Editor-in-Chief of fotoMAGAZIN EDITION, the magazine’s annual fine art issue.
Following the dissolution of the editorial office of his publishing house in Hamburg, Manfred has been working as a freelancer since 2025, collaborating with magazines such as the German photonews. In this role, he continues to focus on outstanding photography, major photo events, and the work of notable photographers.
Today, as an independent editor and writer, Manfred Zollner remains an influential and respected voice in contemporary photography, actively contributing to the critical discourse around images and visual storytelling.
