Manfred Zollner

Manfred Zollner began his career as a film critic and film editor for various magazines after completing his studies in communication science. Since 1991, he has dedicated himself exclusively to photography, establishing a distinguished career in photo editing and visual journalism.
His first major role was as Director of Photography at fotoMAGAZIN. In 2006, after serving as Editor-in-Chief of Photo Technik International (now Photo International), he returned to fotoMAGAZIN as Deputy Editor-in-Chief, bringing his expertise and editorial vision back to one of Germany’s leading photography publications. He also serves as Editor-in-Chief of fotoMAGAZIN EDITION, the magazine’s annual fine art issue.
Manfred’s editorial interests center on photographic work that demonstrates a distinctive personal signature—imagery with character, authorship, and artistic integrity. His discerning eye and deep understanding of visual storytelling have enriched his longstanding contribution as a judge for Travel Photographer of the Year (TPOTY), where he has added a fresh and insightful perspective since joining the panel in 2007.
Today, as Editor-in-Chief of Germany’s fotoMAGAZIN, Manfred Zollner remains a leading voice in contemporary photography, shaping the way images are curated, interpreted, and celebrated.
