Juan Carlos

Country: United States 🇺🇸

Emmy Award-winning freelance photographer and producer, specializing in documenting social issues and humanitarian crises in conflict-affected regions. Born in El Salvador, I emigrated as a child to the United States to flee the civil war, settling in Los Angeles, California. I attended California State University, Northridge (CSUN), obtaining a B.A. in Arts with an emphasis in Interior Design. Upon graduation, I decided to pursue a career in photography and have since developed a vocation as a documentary photographer. I have reported on the wars in Ukraine and Iraq and was one of the few foreign journalists (as well as the only Spanish-speaking journalist) present in Afghanistan to witness the return of the Taliban to power, and I continue to document the ongoing post-conflict situation in my native country of El Salvador. I believe that the role of a photojournalist becomes more important when one hears the testimony of a victim or when you witness the harm one human being causes another.
