Enchanted by the sea since childhood, my roots trace back to the Red Sea’s shores, where I took my first dive in 1988 at the age of six. From that moment, my fascination with the ocean’s diverse life forms—their behaviours, colours, shapes, and patterns—has only deepened. Today, as a marine scientist, I navigate between the roles of coral-reef ecologist, underwater photographer, and naturalist.
My scientific and photographic journeys are closely intertwined, both centred on capturing rare moments of little-known behavioural and reproductive phenomena of corals and other reef inhabitants. At the heart of my work are usually stony corals—the backbone of tropical reef ecosystems. These organisms are the engineers, architects, and artists who create and sustain the intricate reef’s structures and breathe life into them. Through photography, I share their untold stories, beauty, resilience, and fragility.
Blending art and science, my imagery has appeared in books, magazines, and scientific journals, and has been exhibited in galleries and museums worldwide. My work has earned recognition through awards and commendations in esteemed photography venues. Ultimately, my narrative weaves together science and art, using the lens to illuminate the ocean’s hidden wonders while advocating for the preservation of these fragile ecosystems.
