Beth Wald’s award winning photography documents cultures and environments at risk; she is particularly interested in telling stories about how traditional cultures around the world are struggling to survive as they face environmental degradation and rapid social change. This work has taken her around the world – from the mountains of Tajikistan and Nepal where she photographed remote mountain tribes and to the Amazon to document threats posed to indigenous people and fragile ecosystems.
Beth Wald has over twenty-five years experience photographing for many publications, including National Geographic, National Geographic Traveler, Smithsonian, Outside and many others, and commercial clients such as Nikon, Patagonia and The North Face. Beth has also partnered with organizations including the Wildlife Conservation Society, Panthera, Tompkins Conservation, Rewilding Argentina and others to produce photo stories and video for use in outreach, education and local empowerment.
Beth has given workshops for Nikon and National Geographic and media workshops for youth for the Rainforest Alliance and others. She received the prestigious Rowell Award in recognition for her photographic art and her commitment to the places and people that inspire her, and is a member of The Photo Society, National Geographic Creative, and Aurora Photos.
Beth Wald speaks English, Spanish, and a smattering of Russian, and lives in northern New Mexico when not on assignment.
