For more than 49 years Bruce Bennett has recorded the visual history of the sport of hockey in still imagery.
During that time, Bruce has covered over 6,000 hockey games, in 57 different arenas.
In 1974, Bruce Bennett began his career by photographing games at Madison Square Garden and Nassau Coliseum. His images appeared that year in The Hockey News, and since then Bruce is estimated to have recorded over 46,000 photographs in print in virtually every major newspaper and magazine and website around the world, as well as on licensed products such as trading cards and posters.
Bruce shot his first Stanley Cup final in Philadelphia in 1976 when the Montreal Canadiens defeated the Philadelphia Flyers. Since then, Bruce has covered a total of 43 Stanley Cup deciding games. In addition, he has shot 32 All-Star games, six Olympics and over 470 international hockey games. He has served as the team photographer for the New York Islanders, New Jersey Devils, Philadelphia Flyers and New York Rangers.
By 2004, via acquisitions and production of new photography, BBS had amassed a library of over two million hockey images dating back to 1900. In September of that year, Bruce Bennett Studios (BBS) was acquired by Getty Images and Bruce joined the company as their Director of Photography, Hockey Imagery.
In April 2014, Bruce photographed his 5000th hockey game.
Bruce was born in Brooklyn and later raised in Levittown, New York. He currently resides on Long Island, New York.
