Yury Ivanov

Country: Thailand 🇹🇭

I was born in a small town near Moscow, Russia, in 1971, but I left my hometown 14 years ago and moved to Asia. For most of the time, I call Bali home – a true haven for sea slugs and an underwater macro paradise. I'm passionate about nudibranchs (sea slugs) and specialize in studying them, particularly in the Asian region. I co-authored the "Nudibranchs of The Coral Triangle," an identification and guidebook on these fascinating creatures.

A bit more about me: I'm a professional diver and an underwater macro photographer, with over 40 international awards. I became a PADI member in 2006 and I am now a PADI Dive Master with a “Self-Reliant Diver” certificate, having completed more than 15,000 dives. My love for the underwater world began at the age of 10, and I later graduated from the Sevastopol School of Diving, where I had the unique experience of diving with a copper and brass Soviet three-bolt helmet and the AVM-5.

Over the years, I've had the privilege of diving in amazing locations around the world, including Egypt, the Black Sea, Indonesia, the Philippines, the Maldives, Palau, and Thailand. These days, I spend most of my time in Bali, immersed in the beauty of underwater macro life, especially nudibranchs.
