Noel Rojo

Noel Rojo is a Mexican/American photographer whose work bridges documentary and fine art, focusing on the transitions, pauses, and moments of potential that shape human stories.
In 2017, he and journalist Magdalena Rojo launched Women Who Stay, a global multimedia project documenting the resilience of women navigating lives shaped by migration. Covering stories across Mexico, Ethiopia, Senegal, India, Romania, and Slovakia, the project has garnered international media coverage, photo exhibitions, public talks, and a narrative non-fiction book published in Slovakia in 2023.
Based in Oaxaca, Mexico, Noel draws inspiration from his extensive travels throughout four continents, which inform his exploration of shared and unique human experiences. His series Gotas de Fuego (Drops of Fire) explores themes of longing and fleeting connection within Oaxacan cantinas, using candid moments to reveal the complexities of human emotion.
Noel’s work has appeared in international publications including Deutsche Welle, Thomson Reuters Foundation/Context,The New Humanitarian, Unbiased the News, and Mongabay, as well as media outlets across Slovakia, Czechia, and the United States. His photography has been exhibited in solo shows throughout Central Europe and in collaborative exhibitions in Mexico and the United States.
A former fellow at the University of Southern California’s Spiritual Exemplars Project and Brandeis University’s journalism fellowship, Noel continues to illuminate overlooked moments and quiet transformations.
