Danielle Khan Da Silva is a photographer, filmmaker and conservationist of Indian and Portuguese ancestry. She is passionate about rematriation, Indigenized forest and water protection, and uplifting ancient wisdom. Da Silva is the founder and executive director of Photographers Without Borders, co-founder of the Sumatran Wildlife Sanctuary, and recently founded a healing space on the Magnetewan River in northern Ontario. Da Silva was one of the first recipients of the Sony Alpha Female award and was featured at the Sony World Photo Awards in London. She was the recipient of the Canadian Top 30 Under 30 Sustainability Leaders Award and was listed as number 2 in Matador Network's Top 17 Female Photographers of 2017, as well as their Top 5 Women Changing Media. She been nominated for the 2018 Muhammad Ali Humanitarian Award, Canada's Top 100 Powerful Women 2016, 2016 RBC Canadian Women Entrepreneur Awards, and the 2015 Women in Biz Social Good Award. She won an Ontario Volunteer Service Award for over 10 years of Community Service in 2017 and was also named “Woman of the Week” at Women’s Post in 2017. She is a two-time Safina Centre fellow. Da Silva has a B.S. in conservation biology, psychology, and global studies from the University of Western Ontario and an M.S. in environment and development from the London School of Economics. She has given two TEDx talks and was a speaker at Sony Canada and the National Geographic Aveiro Fest in November 2019.
