Carolyn Van Houten is a Pulitzer Prize-winning staff photojournalist at The Washington Post based in Washington, DC. She has worked in dozens of countries across six continents, most often focusing on climate, health, immigration, and human rights issues. Her work has been recognized by the Overseas Press Club’s Robert Capa Gold Medal, RFK Human Rights Award, Forbes 30 Under 30 in Media, Pictures of the Year International's Newspaper Photographer of the Year, among others. She photographed three of the stories in the series that won the 2020 Pulitzer Prize for Explanatory Reporting for climate coverage around the world.
