Carolyn Van Houten is a Pulitzer Prize-winning independent photojournalist based out of Washington, DC. Previously, she worked as a staff photojournalist at the Washington Post for more than eight years covering stories in more than 50 countries across every continent. Her work focuses most often on conflict, climate, health, and human rights issues. She has been recognized by the Overseas Press Club’s Robert Capa Gold Medal, RFK Human Rights Award, Forbes 30 Under 30 in Media, Pictures of the Year International's Newspaper Photographer of the Year, among others. She photographed three of the stories in the series that won the 2020 Pulitzer Prize for Explanatory Reporting for climate coverage around the world.
