Rodrigo Cabrita

Rodrigo Cabrita was born in Oeiras, Portugal, in 1977. He started his career on the daily newspaper Diário de Notícias in 2001, moving soon after to O Jogo, a sports daily newspaper. He then returned to Diário de Notícias where he stayed from 2003 to 2009. After a two year stint on the Global Imagens agency, he moved in 2011 to i newspaper, where he works until December 2015. He is now a freelance photographer and takes part regularly on exhibitions since 2010.

Partnering with a handful of great friends and even greater photographers he participated in collective photography projects like 12.12.12 and Troika project, aiming to raise awareness about the effects of the economic crisis and austerity measures in Portugal.

Over the years he has published in the main Portuguese newspapers such as Diário de Notícias, Jornal de Notícias, Visão, Jornal i and Expresso as well as occasionally abroad in the Associated Press, Le Monde, ABC, Les Temps, ESPN Magazine and TIME.com.

Of the prizes won, he highlights the Gazeta de Fotojornalismo with an image of the funeral of the Nobel Prize for Literature José Saramago, as well as some first prizes in the Portuguese photojournalism contests like Visão and Estação de Imagem, the honourable mention in the Story Nature & Environment category in Istanbul Photo Awards and an Award of Excellence in Spot News category at Pictures of the Year International ( POY ).
