Katie Orlinsky was born and raised in New York City and began her career as a photographer in 2007.
She has worked around the world, documenting a wide range of subjects—from conflicts and social issues to wildlife and sports. Since 2015, her focus has shifted to telling human-centered stories about our changing planet, particularly how the climate crisis is affecting communities across the Arctic and reshaping the relationship between people, animals, and the land.
Katie is a regular contributor to National Geographic, and her work frequently appears in publications such as The New York Times, The New Yorker, The Wall Street Journal, and Smithsonian Magazine, among others.
She has received numerous awards, including honors from World Press Photo, Pictures of the Year International, The Alexia Foundation, Visa pour l’Image, PDN, and the Art Directors Club.
Katie holds a BA in Political Science from Colorado College and an MS in Journalism from Columbia University. She has taught photojournalism as a visiting professor at NYU and the University of Alaska Fairbanks.
