Melting Iceland

Melting Iceland
by Isabel Corthier

One of the most important consequences of future climate changes in Iceland is the increasing speed of glacier run off. While glaciers currently cover 11% of the total land area, it is predicted that glaciers may disappear over the next 100-200 years. Parts of the country start to rise as they get releived from the frozen weight. Pressure reductions could activate the molten magma, roiling in one of the world’s most active volcanic hotspots.
