Child Plays in a Tannery

Child Plays in a Tannery
by Andrew Biraj

A child jumps on the waste products that are used to make poultry feed as she plays in a tannery at Hazaribagh area. For decades, pollution from tanneries at the main industrial site in Dhaka poured into the Buriganga River, wiping out aquatic life and forcing the city to rely heavily on groundwater. In 2017, they were forced to move their factories to the newly built Tannery Industrial Estate in Savar.
