Wild Night Hunt

Wild Night Hunt
by Julien Girardot

A unique equestrian culture, inherited from colonial times, developed on the remote island of Ua Huka, part of the Marquesas Islands in French Polynesia. In the mid-19th century, French Admiral Abel Dupetit-Thouars introduced horses to the island as a gift to the local people. Vohi Brown is one of the last remaining horsemen, proudly continuing this legacy. While pickup trucks have largely replaced horses, Vohi remains devoted to riding in the spirit of tradition. Here, he hunts wild pigs—not only to provide fresh food for his family but also to maintain a deep connection with the wilderness.
