Some farmers in the region of Aveiro use a Portuguese cattle breed, the Marinhoa cattle, to do the hard work at the farm. They are working animals used to pull the wagons, plow and draw water from the wells to irrigate the cultivated land. Nowadays, only a few elder farmers have these kind of cattle to work on the fields, since they were replaced by tractors. These strong but docile animals are raised and treated with love and care.
